History of the song- Moodboard

Photo 1- Top Left- This photo is of the grim reaper. This picture is used to represent death which is the main theme throughout the song. This is also the largest picture because it is the most important as it is the main theme throughout the song. I chose a picture of the grim reaper because he is symbolic with dying and is associated with death.

Photo 2- Top Right- This is a picture of a sitar. The sitar is a traditional Indian classical instrument used in their traditional music called Ragas. The sitar was being used in early to mid-60's as they were influenced by a man named Ravi Shankar, who is an famous sitar teacher who inspired both the Stones and The Beatles. Paint it black was the first song to reach number one featuring a sitar and was the start of Indian influence over rock music.

Photo 3- Middle Left- This is a word collage I found from Google Images describing a ballad. Paint it black closely resembles a ballad because the song is slow and appears to tell a story throughout. This image is only small because it is not a feature of the song but rather an interpretation of what I feel the song is about.

Photo 4- Middle Middle- This is a picture I used in my previous collage. This picture represents loneliness which is apparent throughout the entirety of the song. This picture is only small because I have already included it in the last collage but I still think it is very important which is why I again included it in this collage. This theme is similar to death as both are the basis of the song.

Photo 5- Middle Right- This photo is a women whose face is a question mark. This is implying that no one knows her identity. This is because in paint it black, its about a lover who has died however we don't actually know who the women is. This is quite a big picture as it is what the song is based about, however it is not vital to the story to actually know the women's identity. The identity isn't important because it wouldn't change the theme of the song.

Photo 6- Bottom Left- This picture is about hope. This picture represents the reflection of the depression and the hope that it will change. This picture is quite large because it is a theme that is present in parts of the song. The reason for the picture not being larger than the others is because I don't want to focus on the hope aspect on the song. I want to focus on the depression and the loneliness because I feel it will make the audience feel more sympathy as the whole song is about sadness and loneliness.

Photo 7- Bottom Middle Top- This picture is the thumbnail for their official video. This song doesn't have an official music video but rather an official lyric video. This means that there is only lyrics and no video footage. This picture is small because it gives no influence on how to portray the music video as there is no video example to take influence from. This means I will have to make the music video based on my interpretation of what I think the music video is about.

Photo 8- Bottom Middle Bottom- This photo is of the 60's. The song was made during the 1960's which is also when rock music was influenced by Indian classical music. This photo is the smallest because the time period of the song doesn't have a major impact on the song but rather a fact about the songs creation.

Photo 9- Bottom Right- This picture is of a verse chorus structure. Verse chorus is a popular structure to use in rock music because it always reverts back to the chorus which is normally the most recognisable part of the song. This picture is large because it helps us to understand why they chose this structure and what impact this structure has on this song. This structure was chosen because it can revert back to the theme of depression.
